Dennis is a third generation Oregonian, born in Condon, Oregon. He graduated from Oregon State University and then Willamette University College of Law. Dennis was a Deputy District Attorney in Multnomah County and Linn County, Oregon, for a period of seven years. He then obtained an advanced tax law degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia, after which he joined the Weatherford-Thompson law firm in 1978. Dennis and his wife live in Albany, and they have three sons all living in Oregon. Dennis enjoys camping and fly fishing.
